Less mental stewing, more moving forward with the story!įull review at Naughty Bits was a wonderful surprise! A stand alone novel, this book is a perfect representation of how well Joey W Hill does SMEXY, smart D/s romance! To quote Romance Times, “BDSM can skate a fine line between sensuous and pornographic, but Hill is a master of this subgenre. I’ve never been so bored and aggrieved in a strait up BDSM erotica book in all my life. Blech! It took FOREVER for this story to move forward. And don’t get me started how creepy it was that she uses her dead sister’s name as her Safe Word. ALSO annoying AF: all of the unnecessary sister flash-backs, or thoughts of her during awkward times they usually seemed to happen just before or after an orgasm. They were complete strangers, for God’s sake! The relationship, the atmosphere, and the story progression was forced and inorganic. And add to that, he was having a lot of these explan-o-sations during socially inappropriate times. The author assumed that the readers would be completely flabbergasted, gobsmacked, or confused by a healthy, loving, respectful D/s relationship. Also annoying, was the rather clinical and academic way that the H explained why subs do this, or what the underlying message is when a dom does that. I feel like if she wasn’t perseverating and internalizing every single past and present emotion or thought she’s ever had, she was explaining to the readers these in-depth fantasies she’s having - WHEN SHE COULD JUST SHUT UP AND GO LIVE ONE. And let me tell you, there was a LOT of that happening in this book. ![]() ![]() ![]() The interaction never really happened, so it’s just a bullshit, cock-tease, waste of time and energy. I may be a minority in this, but I get exasperated with explicit fantasies or dreams I feel like it takes precious time away from the true story development. It kind of just went downhill from there. The first thing I noted when starting this audiobook was that the narrator spoke WAAAY to fast she didn’t allow the atmosphere to build or the story to breathe.
